Family Holidays: Lake District

I previously posted about potential family holidays here, however luckily for me my Dad lives in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, the Lake District, so we can explore the area with Athena using them as a base, saving on accommodation!
I’ve been up in all seasons, but it really is stunning in the winter…
Kendal town from the castle and Lake Windermere in snowy December
Wastwater in February compared to…
Wastwater in July! Wastwater is the lake closest to my Dads, an absolutely lovely little pub right at the far end at the foot of Scafell Pike…

Of course there are some lovely coast lines, and a few Lakes that I've not visited yet, the easterly ones close to Ullswater. We’d also love to take Athena to the World of Beatrix Potter too!
We are hoping to take Athena up around this time next year, so she’ll hopefully be toddling and we can show her snowy topped mountains, definitely a but different from our usual views down here on the South Coast!
Ullswater Steamers are currently running a competition for 4 people to win a 3 night stay (in a WIGWAM! or a self catering apartment for the less adventurous!) plus tickets to Muncaster Castle & a trip on the Eskdale steam railway (last summer I wrote about my day at Muncaster Castle) plus passes for a cruise on Ullswater on one of their gorgeous Steamers.

All you need to do is to head on over to their facebook page and like it before Wednesday 2th November!

  1. I've never been this far up the country! I've entered the comp so perhaps i'll get a chance to!

  2. the lake district is such an amazing place for kids! I'm only 16 but we've been going for years as I live in the north west, and many of my favourite memories as a little kid were in the Lakes. I'm sure your daughter will grow to love it too! I've only just discovered your blog but I'm looking forward to having a good scroll through. followed you on bloglovin and i'd love if you could check out my blog too!

  3. Oh goodness I went to the world of Beatrix Potter as a little one- we've got a photo of me about 4 next to Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and grinning like a mad thing. You've just brought back the memories! You'll be able to do the same with Athena!

I love reading your comments, and if you want to chat more then please pop over and join me on twitter here, it's much easier to chat there than here!
